The majority of the discussion revolved around minimization & diversion of waste for on-going operations. Travis reiterated the importance for developing a system for measurement and verification. Blomberg stated that "collecting reliable and meaningful data is the first step to implement and institutionalize a successful waste reduction program. From there, you can follow a repetitive plan-do-check-act approach to continually improvement on your efforts." Blomberg cited WasteCap's involvement in the construction & demolition waste reduction program for state buildings as an example to institutionalize data collection in order to make meaningful change. The session wrapped-up by focusing efforts to reduce that amount of materials that enter the university system as a way to eliminate the need to manage the solid waste material.
