WasteCap Resource Solutions is set to preform eight waste audits on the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee campus this year. The first audit took place on the morning of July 21, 2017. Our team, fashioned in protective gear, prepped to dig through over 80 pounds of waste.

The results of the first audit are as follows:
  • The waste sent to landfill totaled 54.1 pounds, and was comprised of 24.1 pounds of trash, 7.3 pounds of recycling, 21.8 pounds of organics, and 1.0 pounds of items that should not have been sent to the garbage.
  • Waste sent to recycling totaled 37.3 pounds, and was comprised of 2.3 pounds of trash, 34.4 pounds of recycling, and 0.6 pounds of liquids.

What is a Waste Audit?

A waste audit is a methodically thought out process which can be used to determine the amount and types of waste that are generated by your organization.  Information from these audits can help determine how to reduce the amount of waste generated. The goal is to examine the composition of an organization's waste stream and enact procedures to make sure the correct items are going in the appropriate receptacle.
