Project of the Year - Transformation Award Winners

The 2015 Transformation Awards live on! Not all of our award winners were able to accept at the event, but we stopped by to present them with their handmade, much deserved awards. Last week, we visited General Mitchell International Airport to present three organizations with Project of the Year: General Mitchell, Milwaukee County & CD Smith Construction.

These three organizations came together to work on GMIA's baggage claim revamp. This is what our Executive Director, Joe Liebau had to say about the project: "This year Milwaukee County decided to go above and beyond and go for the counties first LEED certified building. Not only did that create a template for all county LEED buildings to come, they decided the best spot and partner was the largest entry point into Milwaukee: GMIA. In a project with that much traffic during construction and such little room to work, it took an amazing partnership to coordinate and see through. The early commitment and integrated team approach allowed for this project to create amazing results" 

​Anna, who served as the Project Manager, reminded representatives of these three organizations of these incredible results:
​

• With WasteCap, the project was able to divert glass block, cement & sand from the landfill and to projects around Milwaukee that could use them
• CD Smith was able to divert 90% of all construction & demolition debris from the landfill due to implementing a recycling program. That means more than 10.8 million pounds of material was diverted!
• 9,000 pounds of pallets were diverted with WasteCap's connections, this meant no extra cost to the contractor!
