Food can be Recycled Too!

Did you know that food waste could make up 33% to 85% of your businesses total waste, and 50% to 100% of that waste is recyclable or reusable?  Almost any business can successfully divert their food waste from landfills.  Often, recovery of food and other organics is a large part of a successful overall waste reduction program that realizes both environmental and economic benefits.

An organic waste diversion program can allow your organization to:

ü      Avoid trash collection and disposal fees;

ü      Provide food to the needy;

ü      Recover the nutrient value of the food as compost or animal food;

ü      Help your community meet local and state waste reduction goals;

ü      Sustain local industries and jobs; and

ü      Create an improved public image for your business.

For more information on this topic and ways to start a program at your business or organization, go to WasteCap's Food and Organic Waste Recycling Web page.
