Tubes (CRTs). CRTs are the main component in
a television or computer monitor's display unit and contain several pounds of lead, a
toxic substance. When intact, CRTs pose
little or no environmental risk; when broken or destroyed, CRTs are considered a hazardous
waste. Recycling old televisions and computer
monitors or donating them for reuse ensures that CRTs are kept out of landfills and
