Try a new way to
recycle
buy retreaded tires!
Retreaded tires are safe, dependable, and cost less than new tires. Retreaded tires are
currently being used on school buses, racing cars, taxis, trucks, airplanes, federal and
military vehicles, and passenger cars. Buying recycled in this instance can save you
between 30 and 50 percent off the price of a conventional tire.
Retreaded tires are good news for the environment as well as your pocketbook. During
the manufacturing process, it takes 7 gallons of crude oil to make one new tire. For a
retreaded tire, the process requires only 2.5 gallons. In 1999, approximately 27.7 million
retreaded tires were sold in North America, resulting in four hundred million gallons of
crude oil being saved last year.
In 1998, the federal government mandated the use of retreaded tires on all federal
vehicles. The U.S. Postal Service increased the use of retreaded tires by 43% in one year.
