Counting Down to the Release of WasteCapTRACE
Scheduled for roll-out January, 2010, WasteCapTRACE is WasteCap’s new online documentation program that will allow users to track ongoing construction and demolition debris recycling and document the results.
WasteCapTRACE streamlines the entire recycling tracking and documentation process. It saves valuable time and resources on every project by reducing time spent calling haulers, tracking numbers and calculating results. With WasteCapTRACE, project numbers are easy to find, track or change. It also gathers information required by governmental entities and certification programs (including LEED and Green Guidelines for Healthcare) and provides an easy way for you to comply with documentation requirements.
For more information or to find out how you can start using WasteCapTRACE in January, please call us at (414) 961-1100.

Recycling News
Wisconsin to require recycling on state projects
Recycling required on state construction projects over $5 million and state demolition projects as of January 1, 2010
Wisconsin should see less construction and demolition (C&D) debris in its landfills come the first of the year. A unique partnership among two state agencies and a nonprofit organization has shown that C&D projects throughout Wisconsin can successfully recycle. Based on these results, the Division of State Facilities will be requiring C&D waste to be recycled rather than put in landfills. This will apply to State of Wisconsin construction projects over $5 million and demolition projects advertised for bid after January 1, 2010. The efforts will reduce waste disposal costs, conserve landfill space and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Continue reading….

WasteCap Member Tri-North Builders Mentors Start-Up Construction Company on Community Project
It could be said Tri-North Builders were helping the competition by working on the new Urban League Center for Economic Development and Workforce Training project in Madison.
However, "Whatever is good for the community is ultimately good for us, too," said Tom Thayer, president of Tri-North Builders. "We all work here together, and we want to help Urban Construction succeed."
Urban Construction, an African American-owned firm, received some of the largest contracts on the Urban League Center project. The start-up construction company is being mentored for growth by Tri-North Builders.
The mentorship seems to have paid off. Urban League's environmentally friendly, LEED-certified facility is expected to generate $50 million in economic activity in its first five years.
"It's a beautiful project on the south side of Madison, where the roots of most of the black community began," says DeAngelo Jackson, president of Urban Construction, a local-, county- and state-certified minority contractor participating in the project.
Earlier this year, the Urban League received a $380,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation. Kresge challenge grants are among the most competitive and prestigious grant awards in the nation. Less than $73,000 remains to be raised by Oct.1 to secure the grant and meet the project’s total fundraising goal of $4 million for the building and the education, employment, and home ownership programs that will operate within it.
Kresge challenge grants are an all or nothing proposition – if the Urban League doesn’t raise the remaining funds, it will forfeit the entire $380,000 grant. Tri-North Builders has already pledged $60,000 to the challenge grant campaign. In addition, with the help of sub-contractors and suppliers, Tri-North Builders has also made nearly $71,000 in other cash and in-kind donations for the Urban League of Greater Madison, for a total of $131,000.
To learn more about the Urban League of Greater Madison's challenge grant program or to make a contribution, visit www.ulgm.org or phone (608) 251-8550.
